Education

A large part of the activities of our Carbon Valley Chapter, NSDAR, involves promoting education. This includes supporting both students and their teachers.
Six, 5th grade teachers. the principal and vice principal of Mead elementary, and three members of the Carbon Valley DAR chapter are shown holding some of the books and a book bag donated thanks to the Freedom Sack Project.

History Books for Teachers

Each year we budget funds for our middle school social studies teachers to help them promote the history of our country. We meet with them and present the gift card and allow them to pick the best books for their students.
In January of 2025, we donated two Freedom Sacks, filled with books about the American Revolution to the 5th grade classrooms in Mead, Colorado. This is a statewide America 250! Project.
The Freedom Sack is a canvas bag containing ten books geared toward elementary school age children. The books cover the founding of our nation and the Patriots who achieved American Independence.  The books include stories not just about the men, but also those of women, children, and people of color.
